Local Christians have been running Bible camps in Hampshire every summer since 1963.  Prior to 1992, the camps were held each year at Owslebury, near Winchester, in a field provided by a local farmer, Reg Dunster.  A formal constitution was adopted in 1982, and the camps became known as South Hants Bible Camps.

Reg Dunster also made his camp field available for evangelistic meetings, and Christian rallies.  Counties Hampshire Regional Fellowship used this field occasionally for tent meetings, as did Victor Madgwick, an itinerant evangelist.  In 1988 Hampshire Christian Trust was formed, bringing together the interests of South Hants Bible Camps and Counties Hampshire Regional Fellowship, to acquire a suitable plot of land for the development of modern camp facilities.

Lockerley Water Farm was offered for sale in the autumn of 1992.  Prior to this we had visited around seventy other potential sites in rural Hampshire, and had on three occasions attempted to purchase specific sites, but were unsuccessful.  Each site we tried to buy was better than the one before; Lockerley Water Farm was by far the best.  With the backing of individual supporters, and churches linked with the camp work, a formal offer was made for the purchase of Lockerley Water Farm.  The purchase took nine months to complete, and provided us with an ideal venue, but no facilities.  One week later, we held our first camp at Lockerley.

Much has been accomplished since then.  There have been bitter disappointments, and difficulties to be overcome, but thanks to God’s amazing provision, and the excellent support of local Christians, we now have very good facilities capable of accommodating groups of up to 120 people.  We thank God for His goodness!

History of HCT

About HCT

The Trust was formed with the aim of buying a suitable piece of land in the Hampshire countryside, and equipping it as an ideal venue for Bible camps and similar events.  This seemed an impossible dream when the Trust was first formed, but God has a way of making the impossible possible!  Backed by real support from many Christian people we were able to purchase Lockerley Water Farm in 1993, and have since developed facilities specifically designed this purpose.  Over the years we have seen adults and younger people enjoying the space, and benefiting from time spent in this special place.  We hope you will be numbered among them!
